June Events: Swim Club TOMORROW, June 10 @ 8am

Swim Club & a poetry event this month!

I have a few events coming up this month! First of all, swim club returns tomorrow at the village beach in Empire. Join me at 8am for coffee, conversation, and a dip! There is no pressure to go in if you aren’t up for it, and no pressure to arrive on time. I’ll be in the north parking lot (by the lighthouse) until 9am, so as long as you arrive by then, you’ll have a swimming companion. :) Bring your friends, your neighbor, your kids! All are welcome.

Swim Club
Swim club kicks off this week! All are welcome, even if you don’t want to get in the water. Bring a coffee or a snack; we’ll visit on the beach for a bit before we plunge! Please reply to this email and let me know if you plan to join.

All swim club meetups will happen at the public beach in Empire, in the north lot by the lighthouse. Note that these dates are subject to change. I will update everyone through Instagram and email updates.

Poetry on The Leelanau Trail
Reception Thursday, June 22, 4:00-5:30pm, Leelanau Trail Caboose
 
I am honored to have a poem featured in the Traverse Area Regional Trails poetry collaboration with Michigan Writers! The project brings poems to The Leelanau Trail, quite literally. In this pilot collaboration five regional poets were invited to submit very short poems (to fit the parameters of 8 x 4 stencils). The poets are Lois Beardslee, Ari Mokdad, Jenifer Steinorth, Mae Stier, andYvonne Stevens.

The poems will be chalk-dusted onto the TART Trail on June 22 in the afternoon. Depending on the weather, the chalk-dusted poems will last only a few weeks so make sure you hike or bike the trail before they fade!

There will be a reception on Thursday, June 22 from 4:00-5:30pm at the TC Trailhead. This is near where the Trail crosses Carter Road, a little north of Tom’s West Bay.
 

Maternity Leave
I am just returning to writing after the birth of my daughter in April, and am on a modified maternity leave through July. I will send out an essay to all subscribers and a poem to paid subscribers this month; note that upgrades to paid subscriptions are put on hold until July 1.
